In 1984, Emma Bridgewater had a problem that many of us can relate to. She couldn’t find the perfect gift for her mum’s birthday. But instead of giving up, she decided to make one herself. And so began Emma Bridgewater, a brand now known for its charming and iconic pottery. Each piece is made from cream-coloured earthenware in Stoke-on-Trent—the historic home of British pottery. There, skilled craftspeople carefully shape, paint, and fire each item. It’s a process that involves 30 pairs of hands and results in 1.9 million pieces of pottery each year. And if that wasn’t impressive enough, in 2022 alone, Emma Bridgewater made over 72,000 personalised mugs—each one unique and made with the same care and attention as the first.
