About Easons
In 1819, Johnston & Co. was established as the company’s original name. Since then, it has weathered some of the most dramatic events in Irish history and expanded to become the country’s primary provider of reading materials. In 1886, Charles Eason and his son purchased the company from W.H. Smith, during the exciting time of Parnell and the Land League.
Involvement in the literary and industrial revolutions of the 19th century was a primary focus for the company. The success of their bookstands on trains was contingent on the rate of literacy improving. Since more people were literate, the written word took on more significance in society. (See L.M. Cullen’s 1989 book “Eason & Son: A History” for further info.)

SHOE DOG
A humbling reminder of the reality of what it takes to succeed in business. What a fantastic story! This is Bill GatesThe year’s greatest book was Phil Knight of Nike’s Shoe Dog. Warren Buffett once said, “Phil is a very wise, intelligent, competitive fellow who also happens to be a gifted storyteller.” Phil Knight, then a business student, borrowed $50 from his father in 1962 and started a firm with the goal of importing cheap, high-quality Japanese athletic shoes. Knight made $8,000 in his first year by selling shoes out of the trunk of his Plymouth. Nike now generates more than $30 billion in annual revenue. In this era of startups, Nike stands head and shoulders above the competition; its iconic swoosh has become instantly recognizable all over the world.
Knight, however, the man behind the swoosh, has been shrouded in mystery. For the first time, he shares his background with them. He starts off being honest, modest, witty, and brave by talking about the turning point in his life when he decided to start his own business at the age of 24. He describes the perils he faced and the difficulties he overcame on the way to his goal, as well as his initial successes. Most importantly, he remembers how his initial group of business partners and staff became like a family. They created a movement-defining brand by joining forces, fueling each other with a common purpose and faith in the transformative power of sports. This book is a memoir full of lessons on starting from beginning, overcoming obstacles, and making your mark on the world despite all the odds stacked against you.
CORALINE
The iconic children’s book, reissued with new artwork by Chris Riddell and an introduction written especially for this edition by Neil Gaiman. “I was enthralled… a marvellously strange and scary book,” said Philip Pullman. “A masterpiece.” Pratchett, Terry Coraline’s new house seems a little off. It’s not the fog, the cat that follows her everywhere, or the warning signs that her new neighbors, Miss Spink and Miss Forcible, see in the tea leaves.
The other residence can be found through the creaky old door in the living room. There, Coraline will find another set of parents who, like her own, have papery skin and black button eyes. They’d like her to stay with them permanently. Time indefinite. She fears that if she opens that door, she may never return. Readers of all ages will be delighted and engrossed by Chris Riddell’s magnificent drawings in this deliciously scary, riveting story.

THE SEVEN SISTERS
The Seven Sisters, by Lucinda Riley, is an epic tale of love and grief that has become a worldwide bestseller. Their loving adoptive father, the elusive billionaire they call Pa Salt, has passed away, and Maia D’Aplièse and her five sisters have gathered at their childhood home, a beautiful, secluded castle nestled on the banks of Lake Geneva, to grieve. They are each given a tantalizing hint to their true origins, one that leads Maia all the way to a dilapidated mansion in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Izabela Bonifacio’s father wants her to marry into Rio’s aristocracy eighty years ago, during the Belle Époque in 1927. But Izabela yearns for exploration, so she talks him into letting her tag along on a vacation to Paris with the family of a famous architect.
Her life is forever altered when she meets the driven young sculptor Laurent Brouilly in the pulsating streets of Montparnasse. The Seven Sisters is the first of a series of enchanting novels based on the legends surrounding the namesake constellation in the night sky. The Storm Sister is the sequel.
