About TGI Fridays
STARTING OUT IN THE YEAR 1965 As the timeless tagline “In here, it’s always Friday” proclaims, the first Fridays restaurant opened its doors in 1965 at the intersection of 63rd and 1st street in New York City. As a result of a goal to put on the “greatest show on earth,” which was inspired by the Barnum & Bailey Circus, a phenomena that is characterized by stripes of red and white came into being. Because of its charismatic bartenders and free-flowing drinks, it became the place where locals who like wild evenings and good times congregated to have a good time.
It only took a week for this restaurant to become the first one to require barricades in order to control the throngs of happy customers who were entering the establishment. As a place where people congregated, it became well-known not just for the delicious food and beverages it served, but also for the atmosphere that was unforgettable.
