Albam was born out of their frustration in 2006 when they couldn’t find the garments they wanted to wear—that is, well-made, modern takes on classic menswear styles—that they could find. They shopped around for the finest fabrics and focused on details, fit, and fabric quality. Also, they were sick of the fashion calendar telling them when to expect certain garments—wool coats in the middle of summer, shorts in January, etc. So, they redirected their efforts to ensure that the clothing would be available for purchase during the appropriate season. Their Classic T-Shirt was their initial design. It took a year of collaboration between a Loughborough-based knitter, a Derbyshire factory, and a Leicester dye house to achieve what they believed to be the ideal white t-shirt.
