The business first opened its doors in 1819 under the name Johnston & Co. In 1886, during the exciting time of Parnell and the Land League, Charles Eason and his son purchased the company from W.H. Smith.
The organization’s principal focus was on participating in the 19th century’s literary and industrial revolutions. Their bookstands on trains could only be successful if the literacy rate increased.
