About Albam
After years of being disappointed by the lack of options for well-made, modern takes on traditional menswear silhouettes, they launched Albam in 2006 to fill that void. Their focus is on sourcing the finest fabrics available, creating tailored fits, and paying close attention to detail. Also, they were sick of the fashion calendar telling us when to expect certain garments—wool coats in the middle of summer, shorts in January, etc. So, Albam redirected their efforts to ensure that the clothing would be available for purchase during the appropriate season. Their Classic T-Shirt was their initial design. It took a year of collaboration between a Loughborough-based knitter, a Derbyshire factory, and a Leicester dye house to achieve what they believed to be the ideal white t-shirt.
Having learnt from these experts, Albam have since made it a point to only collaborate with the best factories and incorporate their enthusiasm and knowledge into every garment they make. This includes their humble Classic T-Shirt, which is now made in Portugal but is still available and continues to be one of their best-selling styles. Their collaborators Albam were fortunate to begin in the East Midlands, where there was an abundance of historic industries. These factories were often tiny, family-run businesses, and the workers there were very skilled and knowledgeable. Their expertise and handwriting informed the brand’s utilitarian design.
