While Angus and Ross enjoyed their time in Cornwall immensely, they soon found themselves in need of financial stability and decided to put their artistic skills to use. They created a printing screen out of discarded materials and a blackout system consisting of tape, nails, and a rug from the Salvation Army to print their own surf-themed patterns on t-shirts, which they then sold out of the back of their Austin Allegro. The new company was dubbed Saltrock in honour of the founders’ preferred South African surf spot.
The concepts were a hit. The brothers’ style was so unique and striking that it quickly garnered a devoted following among surfers in the south-west, and soon they were unable to keep up with demand. With a deep respect for their roots, Saltrock continue to make surf-inspired designs in Devon, with the spirit of independence woven into the very fabric of Saltrock products, which are then distributed throughout the United Kingdom.
