The yarn is made from a synthetic film onto which a metallic layer of aluminium, silver, or gold has been vaporised, resulting in a metallic yarn. The term “Lurex” can also refer to the fabric made from the yarn. The word “lurex” does not exist as a common noun in the English language; however, it is the name of the trademark and the company Lurex Company Limited, which began the production of such nylon and polyester yarn — Lurex — in the 1970s of the twentieth century.
