About Emma Bridgewater
It all began in 1984, shortly after Emma was employed in London after her university education. She once had to go searching for a birthday present for her mum. She had in mind a pair of “I love you” cups and saucers to present to her. You are missed. Wanting to get a set that would recall a house where her mother was born in North Oxford, she strolled around a china shop.
It appeared like there were only two options on the Great British high street back then: too fragile and pompous or too rugged and crass as to be considered not romantic at all. Suddenly, Emma realised she recognised her mother’s kitchen dresser. Here in the china shop, where all around her there is a rainbow of pretty plates, bowls, cups and saucers, she built it up in her imagination.
